Fun while you run at the Wreake & Soar Valley AC
Wreake & Soar Valley AC boasts around 100 members of all ages (from 7 years upwards) and abilities and although we have some extremely talented athletes who take things seriously when it comes to training and competing, the clubs ethos is that running and athletics generally should be fun and that each member should be given the support ,encouragement and opportunity to thrive regardless of their experience or aspirations. All of our coaches hold UKA qualifications and all have current CRB certificates.
As a traditional running club naturally our emphasis is on running events however this encompasses all distances from sprints to the longer distance events, however in 2009 we took part for the first time ever in a Track and Field league which offered summer competition for all of our athletes from 8 -17 years in a wider range of disciplines.
Our sessions are held each Saturday morning on the grass track at the front of the College, again in keeping with our beliefs that we should operate in a welcoming and supportive way we will always warm up as a whole group before splitting off into various training groups and then always finish the session with a mass relay event (we have not missed a club relay on a Saturday morning for almost 8 years!) followed by a cool and stretch down which again brings the club together. When the light nights come this year there will also be a midweek club night on a Wednesday which will see us not only train on the track but get out on the fields and footpaths around the area for some training for the more experienced athletes.
