Wreake Young Athletes made their first appearance at the Midland Road relays in Birmingham on September 20th and what an opening! Our under 15 boys team faced tough opposition from across the Midlands and despite a prediction that they would do well to make the top half of the field, our team comprising of Chris, Charlie and Luke performed brilliantly finishing a fantastic 10th place and that included Chris having to stop to be sick several times!
Our under 13 girls have been waiting to show their true worth as a team and after the secondary schools xc where they finished 5 runners in the top 8 they were raring to go. And what great performances! Hollie was on the first leg and brought the team into 4th place, Maya then took over and despite being under pressure held on to the position to hand over to Rachel who came through to claim bronze medals – a fantastic performance! The decision has now been made to take on the task at the National finals on October 5th again at Sutton Park in Birmingham. We will probably give some of our other girls the opportunity to take part by adding a second team and if we can pull them together give some others in the boys
Section the opportunity to compete at the highest domestic level as well.
Well done to all that took part, to Nicki and Nick for team managing and for Maya’s and Hollies parents for the huge support!
Thanks to the Stokes family for the photos…..
