The annual selection trials to select athletes to represent the East Midlands at the Virgin London Mini marathon took place on March 31st over a 3×1 mile course at Leicestershire County Council HQ in Glenfield. Selected athletes will travel down on the team coach to the holding base at Royal Holloway College in Egham, about an hour from London, on the Saturday prior to the London marathon. The race, which is of the very highest quality with past winners including Mo Farrah is run on the last three miles of the London course, just ahead of the leading runners in the Marathon itself. This ensures a great atmosphere with around 100,000 spectators cheering the young stars of the future on to the finish along the Mall.
At the trials, with 21 finishers across the age groups, the club were by far the most represented and certainly had the biggest share of the team places. Nine athletes gained automatic places in the team with a further two named as reserve.– Under 13 Boys: Daniel Van Aardt, Milo Brotherton, Mackenzie Bloxham
– Under 13 Girls: Isabella Wrightam, Rosie Ashmore, Rebecca Van Aardt, Lyla Bryan (r)
– Under 15 Girls – Indienne King, Katie Parker, OliviaBailey (r)
– Under 17 Women – Rosie Timlock
Congratulations to everyone who took part and full results are shown below.
